Subject: What to expect?
Message:
We are thinking about a 1986 Lagonda. Love the car, but are concerned about the general maintenance and upkeep. Realize it is expensive but can live with that as long as the car is fairly reliable. What can we expect? Assume the car is currently in excellent condition. Basically is the upkeep like any other car or should we expect additional problems/maintenance?

Also, the car only has 16.5k miles. Is this a concern, i.e. lack of use?

Side question...Is the body aluminum and exhaust system stainless?

Lastly, if the CRTs are currently functioning can they be expected to continue to function or are they likely to fail at some point?

Thank you for any responses.

As long as you know it is expensive to maintain an exotic, the basic car(engine, trans, suspension)is pretty straightforward and reliable. The problem is in the electronics and crt. The system never worked well when new and is the main reason these cars are so cheap today. Electronic components are not reliable and the crt dashboard will fail. This is just a part of the ownership of these cars. CRT repair/replacement work will be very expensive(2000-8000 us$). You will find most cars have low mileage and seem in good shape because they were seldom used. The issue of mileage really depends on how long the car sat up and how much repair has been put in lately. If the car has not been driven much in the last few years and no work has been performed you can assume you will have some work to do. Like most cars in this category, if their is no service history it really can not be called in excellent condition and I would factor that in the price you pay. Their seems to be a huge difference between the asking prices of these cars and what they actually sell for( particularly if you are outside the UK). The body is alluminum and the exhaust should be steel. Hope that helps. If you can handle the repair, you can own on of the most exotic cars ever for a low entry price. Good luck!
